Dr. Sharma, MD, FAHA, is the Director of Translational Research in Kidney Disease and a Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Sharma is a leading translational researcher whose major area of interest is diabetic complications and kidney disease.

The major focus of our Center is to develop major new insights into diabetic complications that will fundamentally change the care and treatment of patients with diabetes. At the Center for Renal Translational Medicine, we have developed a multi-disciplinary group of investigators who work together to address one of the most important public health problems, chronic kidney disease.
